Current Retail Clients - Take Action
Starting in December 2023, TD Ameritrade Singapore will focus on Accredited Investors only—discontinuing services to non-Accredited Investors. We are grateful for the opportunity to have served your investing needs over the years.
If you do not wish to become an Accredited Investor or if you do not meet the requirements, you’ll need to act immediately to avoid any account impacts, such as fees and restrictions.
How does this impact me?
If you intend to become an Accredited Investor, we look forward to offering continued support for your investing needs. We encourage you to visit the Accredited Investor transition page as soon as possible to avoid any disruption to your investing activities. We have a team of specialists standing by to make your transition to Accredited Investor status as seamless as possible.
If you are not becoming an Accredited Investor, there will be changes to your account capabilities and you will need to close your account before 31 December 2023.
Timeline and Important Dates
27 November 2023
All non-Accredited Investor accounts will be charged a monthly account maintenance fee of USD $50. Charges will be based on cash balances held at the close of business U.S. time on the 27th day or last preceding business day of the month. Accounts with cash balances less than USD$50 will only be charged an amount to reduce their cash balance to $0 (zero).1 December 2023
At close of U.S. markets, non-Accredited Investor accounts will be restricted. We will no longer accept new trade orders to establish positions, including Futures and Futures Options, or deposits on any remaining accounts. However, you may still place liquidating orders to close positions.
What steps do I need to take to close my account?
You should withdraw assets from your TD Ameritrade Singapore account as soon as possible. There are two solutions to withdraw assets, either a wire withdrawal of cash or a Transfer of Assets (TOA). If you are looking to initiate a TOA, you will need to establish an account with another financial services firm.
When choosing another brokerage provider, it is important to consider if they can receive your assets from your TD Ameritrade Singapore account. For example, some brokers may not be ACAT eligible, which means you cannot transfer option positions or cash balances. In most cases, it is simpler to choose a provider that can provide an ACAT method of asset transfers. Do check with your preferred broker.
We will waive or refund any TD Ameritrade transfer or wire fees you incur up to 31 December 2023 only for entire account transfers and/or wire withdrawals.
Please note: You will continue to be charged a monthly account maintenance fee of USD $50 until you complete an entire account transfer and/or wire withdrawal to bring your account cash balance down to $0 (zero).
If your account contains cash only
To request for a wire from your TD Ameritrade Singapore account, click on Log In below. From there click on Account Centre, then Withdrawal on the left hand panel and expand on Wire Transfers.
Withdrawing cash from your TD Ameritrade Singapore account must be done via an international Telegraphic Transfer (TT). TD Ameritrade Singapore cannot send out 3rd party wires.
If you have recently sold a position, please wait until settlement (normally 2 business days post trade execution) before requesting a withdrawal.
If you have not withdrawn money from your TD Ameritrade Singapore Account before or you are wiring money to a new bank account for the first time, you will need to provide a copy of your bank statement reflecting; your full name and bank account number. This is to verify your ownership of the bank account. You can send the statements to us at funding@tdameritrade.com.sg.
For more detailed requirements, see the FAQ section at the bottom of this page.If your account contains securities and cash
There are two options available to you:
- Liquidate your positions and wait for the trades to settle in your account. This will normally take up to two (2) business days to complete. Once trades have settled and funds are cleared, follow the Full Wire Withdrawal process above.
- Transfer your account to another financial institution. In this case please contact your new financial institution to initiate the Transfer of Assets (TOA). Your new financial institution may require you to complete their forms, most likely an ACAT transfer. Or, they may require you to complete TD Ameritrade forms, most likely a DTC transfer. The new financial institution can email funding@tdameritrade.com.sg to initiate the securities transfer request.
For non-ACAT requests e.g. DTC or DRS, the process excludes non-securities items like; cash or options on securities. It is likely there will be lengthy processing times for non-ACAT transfer requests, during which time you may not be able to trade on some of your securities positions. Requesting an ACAT transfer from your receiving broker or liquidating your positions and withdrawing the cash balance, will likely be a quicker solution.
If instructed to complete TD Ameritrade forms, please use the following: DTC Request Form-TDAS 1021 (tdameritrade.com.sg)
- Liquidate your positions and wait for the trades to settle in your account. This will normally take up to two (2) business days to complete. Once trades have settled and funds are cleared, follow the Full Wire Withdrawal process above.
